Sorry I haven't written anything for a
while but have you seen the weather out there? Bloody Awful. It seems
to have rained for about 5 weeks, constantly. I had standing water in
my strawberry bed. The river is constantly threatening to burst it's
banks but has, as yet, been contained. Rather than building raised
beds I have been building an Ark.
Anyway, today I made it to the swamp
in which I attempt to grow things today. During another dash between
the showers a week or so ago I had managed to get the cloches on my
salad leaves to protect them against those cold nights (to be honest
we haven't had many of them but I thought I better look after them)
so I hoped that they would be fine.
The good news is the wire and plastic
construction had protected them from the 2 frosts that we have had
but can you guess who hadn't checked to see if the cloches were full
of slugs? Yes, that would be me. To be fair to me I was in a hurry
the day I put them on but I really should have checked. There was a
certain amount of lace work where I used to have salad leaves.
Luckily, a few leaves had survived the
sluggy onslaught so we have some for our sandwiches and salads, which
is nice
Also picked a few brussel sprouts
today which is very satisfying because I have had trouble getting the
tight mini cabbages that I was looking for in the past. I have no
idea what I have done differently this year, oh well.
The nice man on the weather promised
me that it was going to stop raining this week so lets hope he is
right so we can all get outside and do stuff.
