This isn't about my allotment or onions this time but is about allotments in general. According to a survey carried out by the home insurance firm LV (why have hey done this survey?) the longest waiting list in the country for an allotment is 40 years. to suffer this wait you would have to live in Camden.
A friend of mine applied for an allotment in Poole, Dorset and she was accepeted on to the waiting list. She asked, hopefully, how long was the list? "You are 333 on the list madam."
I think you find that this is the reason the most allotments owners are old. It's not that they have had the plot for a long time, it's because they have been on the waiting list for most of their lives and now they've got one they are not going to give it up. From our cold, dead, soil encrusted hands.
